DXA SCANS
- A DXA scan is the gold standard tool designed to measure bone density.
- It is a low dose x-ray examining your hips and spine
- You do no need a doctors referral to access this service.

- Performed by a chartered physiotherapist
- Yo fill in a short medical questionnaire
- Remove any body piercings
- An electronic arm will move over your spine and hips taking x-rays
- It takes about ten minutes
- It is not claustrophobic

Results
- Wexford bone health is a consultant led service
- Immediately following the scan you will be provided with an indication of your results
- You will be given general information on diet and exercise and the likelihood of the need for medication
- The consultant radiologist will review and report on all scans to your gp

- Your own doctor will receive a final report from the Consultant Radiologist and will provide treatment if necessary

Wexford Bone Health provides DXA scans for diagnosis of osteoporosis
The service is provided by two consultant radiologists and a chartered physiotherapist.
The physiotherapist can give expert advice on the exercises required to improve bone health.
The radiologists analyse the results and send the report to your doctor.

Ruth Devereux
Chartered Physiotherapist
Ruth is a Chartered Physiotherapist and a certified Densitometry technologist. She has worked in Wexford Bone Health since 2005.
Dr. Richard Deignan
Consultant Radiologist
Dr. Richard Duignan is a Consultant Radiologist in Wexford since 1994. He graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons. He trained in Dublin, Aberdeen, Wales and Canada.
Dr. John Morris
Consultant Radiologist
Dr. John Morris is a graduate of UCC medical school. He trained in Cork University hospital, St. James University hospital & General Infirmary in Leeds. He is a Consultant in Wexford since 2009.
